The thread's biggest comment isn't an answer
The most-liked comment in the entire section is not an answer. With 5,999 hearts — more than any purchase named here — one person simply read the replies and wrote: “People saying divorce is so funny but so sad”. It is a remark about the thread rather than something bought, so it is not counted among the answers; it was also, in its way, accurate.
Twenty-five of the answers say the word divorce outright — “$3600…Divorce”, “Divorcing my cheating husband”, “Divorce from Satan”, “My divorce. It was almost 20k.” The category that holds them runs to 27 once you add a restraining order, a bankruptcy filed after an ex wrecked someone’s credit, and the boxes one commenter bought to help an ex move out while she was on vacation.
Named most often
Direct textual mentions across the filed answers. Unlike the categories above, these rows overlap: a comment reading “Botox, filler, laser hair removal” counts in three of them.

Hearts in this thread measure arrival time as much as quality. The answers posted in the first three days hold 27,006 of the 27,238 hearts on record; the 457 answers that arrived later hold 232 between them. Rank by arrival-corrected resonance instead — a comment's like percentile inside its own arrival window — and a completely different shortlist surfaces.
The clearest case is “My divorce lawyer”: posted on day 54, four hearts, and one of the strongest-resonating answers in the whole corpus. Beside it sit “The Dyson I suck at doing hair and it basically does it for you and it damages it way less” (day 18, three hearts), “As a working high schooler I buy myself yearly 5k vacations…” (day 17, three hearts) and “I’m late but my whole 20$ on my cat” (day 38, three hearts).
1,147 of the 1,308 answers — 88% — carry no hearts at all. Read only the top of the thread and you would miss the IKEA vanity that changed someone’s morning, the weighted elephant that helps with panic, and the self-filling dog water bowl bought with chore money.
$1 to $500,000, and the shape in between
Price explains almost nothing about which answers landed. The two most-liked purchases in the thread are “My Bible” and “i bought a $4 ice cream yesterday & i can’t stop thinking about it”. The volunteered figures elsewhere run from a $1 Diet Coke from Sonic to a $500,000 cancer treatment, by way of $25k of IVF, a $200k backyard pool, an 18k nose job and a medical degree its owner priced at almost half a million.
What repeats instead is a shape: something that deletes a daily friction. The hair tool that cut styling from an hour and a half to thirty minutes. The litter robot. The grocery delivery. The treadmill that removes the excuse. Sixty of the answers — roughly one in twenty — are someone paying another person to do a chore, and one of them, “House cleaner to come twice a month”, drew 3,664 hearts on its own.
Dataset, coverage, and methodology
How this was counted
The working unit is one comment record. All 1,578 comments captured from this video (1,362 top-level and 216 replies) were read and either filed under one spending category or placed in a named exclusion bucket: 1,308 filed, 270 excluded.
A comment that lists several purchases — “Divorce, Facials/Massages, House Cleaner” — is filed once, under the first purchase it names. Category totals are therefore counts of comment records, not counts of purchases, and two people naming the same product are two rows.
The “named most often” figures are separate: they are direct textual mention counts across the filed answers, and one comment can appear in several of those rows.
Exclusions, all listed by reason in the ledger behind this article: 108 name no purchase, 58 are reactions or agreements, 44 point at another account instead of describing the purchase, 19 ask another commenter for details, 17 are emoji-only, 8 are addressed to the video's creator, 8 remark on the thread itself, 7 answer with a person or a joke, and 1 names a purchase its author regrets.
Ranking uses arrival-corrected resonance — a comment's like percentile within its own arrival window — because comments posted in the first days of a viral thread collect nearly all of the hearts. Heart counts shown on cards are the raw counts.
These are counts of what people said, not of what they own, what they paid or what works. Nothing was verified beyond the text of the comment.
