Yes!!!! Time is irreplaceable and we spend so much of it on bullshit
And your life force energy. That's the real currency. I found that out a couple years ago during chemo. I felt like I was dying. I never realized how powerful my life force energy was. That's the real money.

Choosing the right partner is the single most important thing you can do
My friends call it the Fuck It 40s. 😂😂😂 You realize a lot of shit doesn’t matter. What’s most important to me right now is community and the quality of my relationships. When times get hard and the world gets crazy you see how important it is to have people in your corner to love and support and to give that back to. Oh and getting debt free - and staying that way since my late 20s was one of the best decisions I made that era.

As someone who has multiple mental health issues, money absolutely helps solve those. You can afford to see the therapist. You can afford your medication. You can afford to take a year off of work and focus on your mental health.
I like it said this way...money may not buy you happiness but it sure as hell buys you freedom

Your health. Nothing else does
1. Don't borrow money for things that don't go up in value or pay you. 2. Trust yourself and your ideas. 3. Invest in your retirement early. 4. Leave relationships and jobs that don't promote growth. 5. Take care of your body & mind. 6. Be a lifelong learner.
Spending money is an art. Think about using it to make memories.

I actually completely agree! We are away from home for an extended time and are staying with my youngest son. He’s doing well in life but is very frugal with his money. I had to buy sheets, a nice blanket, lush towels, and a few other things. I appreciate him letting us stay with him. I just refuse to not be comfortable.
I totally agree , my house is curated to comfort me and make me feel safe 🥰 all I want to do is stay in and play music and read books . Thank god my days off are tomorrow

Sunscreen is poisionous. Don't wear it. Better to cover with a hat or long sleeves if you're that worried. But sun is GOOD for you, it is healing.
My mother-in-law always felt too fat/uncomfortable to be in photos. When she passed it made us so sad to have so few of her. I will take a photo of my babies every chance I get. Fat, no make up, messy hair-doesn't matter. I'm going to smile and hope that they remember the way they made me feel.

Your ego will stop you from doing and experiencing a lot of things, it’s always not that serious, and you will get it once you get older, stop and always smell the roses. Mind your business and be a good person
All the stuff that sounds good, the title, the job, the things; don’t mean anything unless you feel good inside. If it causes you inner turmoil-goodbye. I love me and I will never betray myself again. Lead with your healed heart.

This is true, but I would add a slight addendum. You need to pick whose opinions matter. I would not discount all of them, but most of them aren’t anything useful

What others think. I think alot of people, myself included worry too much about what other people think about us. Truth is most people feel the same way. Most are so worried about themselves that they’re really not paying that much attention to u. At the end, what does it matter what they think or say about u? It doesnt. Not one bit… most of the time.
What people think of you doesn't matter at all, don't sabatouge yourself or your dreams for other people, your cell phone will suck years of your life away, and eat good food and move your body.

Canonical lesson with supporting source records, what it means, tension or counterpoint and limits of the reviewed sample: mixed: what mattered and what did not
Source-backed answers are shown before diagnostics; the complete source archive remains below.
Appears when: mixed: what mattered and what did not
What the pattern means: The thread's clearest reversal of what people expected to matter: the credential opens the door, but temperament is what moves you through it. Commenters describe holding roles that normally require a specific degree, and attribute the promotion to attitude and being easy to work with rather than qualifications. The dissent inside the group is not that the degree matters more, but that neither does — several redirect the question entirely toward money habits, health, or building a trade into a business.
What commenters described: Your personality in the work force will get you promoted much MUCH faster than your degrees.
Limit: These are individual career histories from one thread; none accounts for industry, timing, or the degree they already held when the personality paid off.

That's not true my personality just makes people think they can take either advantage of me or hostile with me
1000% disagree. My college gave me opportunities I would NOT have had as a poor kid with no connections!
Shit. I’ve found myself agreeing with some who boasts about being a Homeschooler. My day is ruined and I am now evaluating my life choices.

hard work matters, college degree matters less, high school didn't mean shit
Learn a trade, get some experience in that trade, then start your own business. It will take years to build that business into something to support a family. Don’t get discouraged.

Quicksand was way less of an issue than we were led to believe it would be
African bees and quicksand didn’t turn out to be as big of a deal as I anticipated as a kid.

This export carries real like counts and timestamps. The first 18 are the most resonant on-topic top-level comment from each stage of the discussion, ranked by resonance within their arrival-time cohort so later arrivals are not penalised for having had less time to accumulate likes. The last 6 received no likes at all and were chosen for the specificity of what they describe.

And one more thing
A running joke threads through the whole comment section: being asked this question at 40 is itself offensive. Hundreds of commenters pointed out that 40 isn’t “looking back on life” age — ask the 80-year-olds. And among things that never mattered once: quicksand, and stop-drop-and-roll. As one commenter put it: “Exercising mattered. Stop drop and roll did not.”
