Which Infomercial Products Were Worth It? Owners’ Picks and Caveats
The favorites earned a place in everyday life
Owners most often returned to simple repeat jobs: grilling a quick meal, blending a drink, cleaning a spill or staying comfortable. Their caveats matter just as much: cleanup, learning curves, missing parts and disappointing replacements complicate the nostalgic favorites.
- George Foreman grill: everyday sandwiches and difficult fixed-plate cleanup.
- Ronco Showtime Rotisserie: repeat use weighed against the cleaning job.
- Magic Bullet: college drinks and later family smoothies.
- Old favorites and new replacements can perform differently.
- Knife sets drew the longest ownership claims: 20 to 40 years, often never sharpened.
- Children's 'magic' toys disappointed most; kid-requested kitchen tools often lasted.

This shortlist answers where discussion concentrated; it is not a best-to-worst product test. The complete catalog also includes niche nominations, mixed experiences and cautionary entries. Counts include supporting records, not just favorable nominations.
George Foreman grill
The George Foreman Grill, still have it and use it 💯🤟❤️❤️❤️
Why it stood out: Small kitchens and everyday sandwiches are where the grill earned its keep. Owners describe years of burgers, paninis and grilled cheese, tempered by awkward fixed-plate cleanup, eventual wear and disappointment with one newer replacement.
Limit: Fixed-plate cleanup, worn hinges and one disappointing newer replacement temper the long-life reports.

I cried for 3wks when mine broke
Absolutely!!!!!! I had a huge 8 serving sized one and it stopped working… I was devastated!!! I have a small one now that I use for any and everything tho 😂😂😂
the orginal, bought one last year it was trash
Ronco Showtime Rotisserie
Set it and forget it baby! LOVED it!
Why it stood out: The strongest loyalty comes from recurring chicken dinners and holiday roasts, including inherited machines and replacement purchases. Cleanup, storage space and heat are recurring costs; other owners report dry results, disuse or an appliance failure.
Limit: Cleaning, heat and storage space bothered some owners; one household stopped after a single use.
What the replies added2
That's the Ronco! I literally just posted about ours. 😂
My parents LOVE the set it and forget it 😭 so glad this was the first comment I saw
ShamWow
WHY HAS NO ONE SAID SHAMWOW
Why it stood out: Spill cleanup and years of reuse explain the affection better than the famous sales pitch. Some owners found the absorption ordinary or disappointing, and replacement durability and slow drying also drew complaints.
Limit: Some users reported weak absorption or disappointment with later replacements and drying time.
What the replies added2
Scamwow!!! I said the same thing. That shit actually works
Because it’s a f*cking piece of fabric. It’s just a sham. No wow. Great salesman though.
Snuggie
My dad bought and shipped me one. I mentioned all my other friends were jealous so he bought and shipped me 16 more.😂😂 We all still have them. He was great man.
Why it stood out: A joke gift often became ordinary winter equipment: owners describe cold homes, couch time, college and camping. Its simple appeal was warmth with free hands, although some blankets wore out or failed to impress.
Limit: One owner rejected it; others reported eventual fabric wear.
What the replies added2

Remember one year my grandma made everyone a Snuggie instead of buying them, loved it lol
Magic Bullet blender
The Magic Bullet. That thing made mixed drinks for us in college and then went on to make smoothies for my toddler years later. When it finally died, I felt like it deserved a funeral
Why it stood out: The blender followed some owners from college drinks to family smoothies and daily kitchen use. Long ownership stories coexist with broken cups, lost rings, motor failures and one user replacing a heavily used unit roughly yearly.
Limit: Motor, cup and part failures appear alongside long-lived units; one early unit rattled.
What the replies added1
Magic Bullet. I only got rid of it about a year ago because a couple of the cups broke and I got a Braun multi-tool immersion blender and food processor for Christmas.
Slap Chop
Maaaaan we got one and ours didn’t chop ANYTHING we called it the slap smoosh 😒
Why it stood out: For fans, onions, garlic and salsa made this a tool worth keeping close. Detractors describe vegetables being crushed instead of chopped, fiddly cleanup and breakage that erased the time saving.
Limit: Some owners found it smooshed food, took too long to clean or broke early.
What the replies added1
mine broke after a few slaps
Pillow Pets
pillow pet. no lies, no tricks, exactly as advertised
Why it stood out: These often remained sleeping companions long after childhood, with others becoming travel pillows or bedroom keepsakes. The practical complaints are small but specific: worn parts, flattened folds and Velcro catching hair.
Limit: A flattened fold, missing nose and Velcro catching a child's hair appear in the owner reports.
What the replies added2
I’ve had my purple unicorn, Gage, for about 20-22 years! My sister also has her ladybug- we both got gifted them for Christmas I believe, so yeah, I’m with ya!
I got one as a gift in college and I got rid of it when I moved. I’m 38 now and still sad about it. It was a purple unicorn
OxiClean
Best purchase every. It really does get the tough stains out.
Why it stood out: The praise names specific jobs: a wine stain, grout, pet stains on rugs, nail polish on white carpet and a newborn's soiled clothes, and one owner says they have used it loyally for 20 years. Two long-time users think the original formula was stronger than what is sold now.
Limit: Two long-time users say the original formula worked better than the current one.
What the replies added2
Best purchase every. It really does get the tough stains out.
People forget one of its uses was to clean grout, that was why I first bought it and it really worked.
MyPillow
I’m so ashamed to admit it but..MyPillow. 🫣
Why it stood out: Washability, familiarity and years of comfortable sleep keep some owners loyal. Others report lumps, short lifespans or worse comfort from replacements, making personal fit a clearer theme than any universal sleep or neck-pain benefit.
Limit: Other sleepers described lumps, discomfort, short life or a later purchase worse than the original.
What the replies added1
The my pillows suck. It lasted 2 months.
Miracle Blade knives
A Miracle Blade knife set! They were so good!
Why it stood out: Owners repeatedly describe keeping gifted, inherited or long-purchased knives in daily use for decades. The set matters: some retained only a few favorites, while other buyers disputed the advertised cutting performance.
Limit: Not every knife in a set satisfied its owner; some rejected the advertised cutting performance.
What the replies added1
Miracle blade. Some of the sucked but I still have a few 24 years later

Limit: Not every knife in a set satisfied its owner; some rejected the advertised cutting performance.
What the replies added1
Miracle blade. Some of the sucked but I still have a few 24 years later
What owners reported: Clearer-skin stories sit beside dryness, burning, residue and reports of serious reactions. The comments span uncertain formulations and individual experiences, so the useful takeaway is the disagreement and the safety context—not a treatment promise.
Limit: Dryness, burning, swelling, residue and lack of benefit appear alongside favorable experiences.
What replies pushed back on3
I wasn’t allergic but it was far too strong, stripped the hell out of my skin, turned it to a scaly mess and did NOTHING to get rid of the acne.
No it didn’t it turned my skin to lizard skin, it’s totally a chemical burn nightmare and does not work at ALL
Worked so good it stopped working the second you stopped using it [Tears of joy][Tears of joy]
What owners reported: The purchase made more sense to people who understood contact juggling required practice. Others expected the ball itself to create the illusion and felt let down; dropped-ball injury and floor-damage reports also qualify the nostalgia.
Limit: Several buyers were disappointed; a detailed favorable account depended on learning the manipulation skill.
What the replies added2
I still have mine! And no I still can’t contact juggle but 10/10 I dented my mom’s hardwood floor
so I recently saw a Fushigi expert(? idk the term) perform at a party and it was so much fun. there's def a niche market it there still
What owners reported: Long-running family haircut routines are the strongest source of loyalty to the vacuum-assisted system. Owners describe replacing broken units and using it across generations, while a complaint-handling anecdote points to the importance of user technique.
Limit: Some units eventually broke; results also depended on the user's technique.
What the replies added2
They had a second boom in business during Covid. I have used it on my pixie haircut when I couldn’t get to a salon.
No way! Thought this the craziest thing and doubted it.
What owners reported: Bedside lamps and Christmas-tree lights gave clap control a clear job. Coughs, playful children and claps too quiet to register could make it less convenient; a reported fire remains an unverified incident, not proof of a brand-wide defect.
Limit: Coughs could trigger it, while one child's claps were too weak to activate it.
What the replies added2
We plug our Christmas tree lights into it every year! No climbing behind a whole ass tree to turn the lights on!
I bought this for my incredibly lazy teen, and it was the best thing instead of yelling turn off your light,no just yelled, clap!
What owners reported: Repeat styling and replacement purchases explain the enthusiasm more clearly than ad memories. Hair pulling, burns, eventual failure and a reported electrical incident temper that praise; a disappointing dupe is a separate product.
Limit: Owners also reported pulling, burns, failed units and an electrical fault discussed in the safety notes.
What the replies added1
The instyler curling iron! It was great from the infomercial but when it broke Walmart was suddenly selling them and the quality wasn’t the same
What owners reported: Portability runs through the strongest stories: a rod kept in a truck, used over summers or carried by a grandparent. A dissenting owner valued it as a collectible while finding it poor for fishing.
Limit: One owner preferred it as a collectible rather than for fishing.
What the replies added2
best infomercial item you ever I still got one today
I looooove seeing this. I knew amRon Popiel. I was the first (with my brother) to go in Ron’s house after his death. I wish I had a video camera back then to document. He was in the middle of so many way cool inventions!!
What owners reported: Continued use, powder coverage and staying power underpin the loyalty. Loose-powder mess and changing skin needs qualify the praise, and a broad brand mention rarely identifies the formula or shade to buy.
Limit: Loose powder took practice to avoid mess; one user moved away from powder as their skin aged.
What the replies added1
nope. they messed with the mineral veil formula sometime back in the late 2010s, and it's worse.
What owners reported: Repeated kitchen use and replacement gifts make this a practical favorite in the discussion. Long service and stained fabric appear together, but burning-log and lava remarks exceed what the evidence supports; the manufacturer’s use limits matter.
Limit: Owners mentioned staining and wear; the lava claim is addressed separately in the safety notes.
What the replies added2
20 years later I FINALLY threw it away. I loved those things 😂😂 and they last forever 😂
They still make them! They’re on Amazon!! I have to buy a new set since mine are like 15 years old 😅🤣
What owners reported: Fans describe removing burnt food, assigning sponges to different tasks and preferring the texture to cheaper substitutes. That texture also puts some people off, and several replies favor Scrub Mommy instead.
What the replies added2
only sponge I've ever used in yearrrsss will ever use, all other sponges are so gross to be
unfortunately, they are that good, I’ve tried the generic of them as well, and they fall apart so quickly. They work almost as good, but the lifespan of them is terrible, but I was getting at Family Dollar and Dollar General, the scrub daddy is the best. Steel wolf scratches up a lot of stuff, and hurts your hands, scrub daddy doesn’t. It worked so well for dishes after fighting with burnt stuff on a pan for so long at a time, it was fantastic.
What owners reported: Frozen pizza and appetizers gave the rotating oven a regular place in some kitchens for years. Counter space is the trade-off, and an owner’s messy bacon experiment shows the limits of treating a favorite appliance as an all-purpose cooker.
Limit: One owner missed an on/off switch; others noted counter space or a messy bacon experiment.
What the replies added2
The chokehold that the pizzaz has on my mother in law is insane.
also in a pinch my homie used it to cook bacon it was a mess but it totally worked
What owners reported: Owners describe patching sinks, a tub and a windshield, coating a plywood truck box and sealing an onstage pool. One user who blocked stormwater at a doorway says removal stripped paint and wood. The unspecified formulations and anecdotal repairs do not establish suitability for another surface.
Limit: Removal reportedly damaged paint and wood; the exact sealant format is often unspecified.
What the replies added2
I can’t think of flex seal without thinking of that girl who flex sealed all her neighbors’ mailboxes shut lmao
one year my husband used flex seal on a carved pumpkin to see how long it would last. he finally threw it out in March. it was still orange.
What owners reported: The positive reports center on a demanding routine that people returned to at home. One disappointed impulse buyer expected a trainer-like physique, a reminder that ownership and enthusiasm do not establish a predictable fitness result.
Limit: Owners described a demanding routine and high expectations relative to its purchase cost.
What the replies added1
P90x was awesome. I did that with my ex wife and I got sooooo in shape with that.
What owners reported: Creative play and fond memories sit beside a surprisingly physical set of complaints: repeated blowing, dizziness, clogging and accidental ink intake. Reports of discomfort should remain distinct from unverified claims of poisoning.
Limit: Users described clogged or dried pens, wet spraying and lightheadedness from blowing.
What the replies added1
Was taking a breath in to get ready for the ink blow but I sucked backwards and the ink went in my mouth and it was so gross I threw up
What owners reported: The memorable smell and bubble play are closely tied to difficulty inflating the material, sticky mess and ingestion stories. The documented Canadian recall provides a stronger safety basis than speculative cancer claims in the comments.
Limit: Users recalled difficult inflation and strong odor; the documented recall has a separate safety note.
What the replies added2
You had to blow out your eardrum just to get them to blow up though 🤣😭
I loved this stuff as a kid. smelled like break cleaner 😂😭
What owners reported: The inserts earned affection through prom, cheerleading and deliberately high-volume hairstyles. One owner needed experimentation to learn placement, so the useful detail is the styling learning curve rather than an instant-result promise.
Limit: It took one user experimentation to learn the technique.
What the replies added1
God this just reminded me I wore a bump it to my senior prom in 2010 😂

Claims that need context before you buy
Floam and Aqua Dots are different products
Why this needs context: A documented Aqua Dots poisoning recall should not be transferred to Floam.
Read the source claim
Wasn’t Floam the same chemical structure as Rohypnol? A mother playing with this , alongside her child, was paralyzed for several hours after mistakenly placing Floam to her mouth.
Kitchen gloves do not make lava safe to handle
Why this needs context: Thermal protection has limits that the lava joke obscures.
Read the source claim
OveGlove! You can pull a molten lava rock out of an active volcano and not burn your hands. Chefs kiss!
A failed socket is a reason to stop using an appliance
Why this needs context: One failed appliance is not proof of a product-wide defect, but retrying an unsafe connection is not useful advice.
Read the source claim
I cried when mine died. it even blew out my electric socket and I was willing to try another plug😂
A thawing tray does not replace safe defrosting
Why this needs context: Successful thawing and safe food handling are separate questions.
Read the source claim
Miracle thaw! I found one in my old house when we moved in and thought it was silly but it actually works. Great when you forget to take frozen meat out the night before... which is always
Balloon-kit recall context, not a cancer prediction
Why this needs context: A documented solvent-vapour recall does not establish an individual cancer outcome.
Read the source claim
Loved these! From the smell of them, we are all definitely getting cancer though.
Smoke Away: the advertised effect was challenged
Why this needs context: A personal quitting story does not resolve the evidence behind treatment advertising.
Read the source claim
Smoke Away. They were a week of herbal supplements that suppressed the pain of nicotine withdrawal. Without the painful cravings I was able to maintain my willpower to not smoke allowing the nicotine in my body to fully deplete. I had smoked for 20 years and felt no withdrawal symptoms. It was a real life miracle.
Proactiv: individual results and serious-reaction context
Why this needs context: Individual acne outcomes do not remove the possibility of serious reactions.
Read the source claim
that shit made my eyes swell shut the day after using it. tried multiple times hahaha
Dr. Ho: the reported blanket ban is not established
Why this needs context: A specific FDA clearance and a vague historical ban allegation describe different scopes.
Read the source claim
Dr Ho’s electric pads were great for the back. Quickly made illegal in the US because anything higher than 2 would practically electrocute you. The dial went up to 10…
BeActive: advertising claims need separate evidence
Why this needs context: Relief reported by one owner does not validate the advertised mechanism.
Read the source claim
Be active leg brace for sciatica, works instantly!
Magnetic braces: the cause of relief is unproven
Read the source claim
I can't remember the name of it but it was a set of braces for your back and for your risks and legs and stuff and they had magnets in them. I have a bad back and I'll tell you what I put that thing on within 10 minutes I couldn't feel anything bad. Even took it to my dad's house and he tried it on and after 15 minutes of wearing it he was able to lean over and almost touch his toes which he hadn't done in 25 years. But then it slowly fell apart. Couldn't never find another one.
Pink Patch: a weight-loss story is not proof
Read the source claim
Pink patch and it actually worked it did make me lose some weight 😂
Ped Egg: calluses and over-filing need different explanations
Read the source claim
The reason you still have callouses is because you are using this. Do it once and then switch to just a urea/lactic acid lotion daily.
Lint Lizard: useful cleaning does not prove a fire was prevented
Read the source claim
My father in-law- rest in peace- got a lint lizard and us one for free- we still use it 10 plus years later… it actually saved us from a fire! 🔥
Your Baby Can Read: keep the reading stories in perspective
Read the source claim
My Baby Can Read. My son had zero problems with site words when he went to school.
Chia Pet: the ornamental kit is not a salad kit
Read the source claim
Chia pet. no, not kidding. cultivated chia sprouts for salads on the Christmas tree chia pet for years until it suffered demise by kitten.
Food dehydration: overripe and rotten are different
Read the source claim
that food dehydrater thing. when fruit starts to go bad, I dehydrate it for trail mix.
Produce wash: a long-lasting batch is not a preservation guarantee
Read the source claim
Clean Boss Eat Cleaner fruit and vegetable wash. I've had berries last over 3 weeks in the fridge after using it
Fushigi: learning from an influential performer
Read the source claim
Fushigi! I know the infomercial was misleading and most people wrote it off as a scam…but me being a 10 yr old kid hyperfixated on magicians and performative art I was determined to learn. I watched the disc it came with, read up on the art of contact juggling, watched Michael Moschen’s performances (he invented contact juggling) to learn straight from the source. I ended up with a long-since-privatized YouTube channel with over 25K subscribers, which was a much bigger deal back in 2010 than it is now lol. Big enough of a deal for the company to invite me out to shoot for a planned commercial that unfortunately never came to fruition, but I got to keep the shirt!
Scrub Daddy: surface compatibility has limits
Read the source claim
Yes and you can use them on anything including glass. I have one for kitchen, one for the bathroom fixtures (not toilet obv), and one for my fish tank
Flex Seal: the pipe and formulation matter
Read the source claim
Anything under the flex seal brand absolutely slaps. I use the spray primarily at my job for repairs and it holds up extremely well to the point we haven't had to replace some piping.
Makeup: no universal breakout guarantee
Read the source claim
Still use it to this day!! You will never break out and it covers perfectly.
Proactiv: identify the formula before comparing ingredients
Read the source claim
I was allergic to proactive. Their main active ingredient is salicylic acid which is what I was allergic to. The most I ever cared about a skin routine
Acne: a thread cannot diagnose the cause
Read the source claim
No, allergic reaction is hives and swelling. It’s awful for people with truly dry skin, and does zero to help with hormonal acne. The only thing that ever helped my skin clear up was pregnancy & perimenopause aka hormone changes. Also, yeast plays a part in keeping the skin barrier from healing lot of the time, and an antifungal can also help.
Cutco: forever service still has conditions
Read the source claim
It's a pyramid scheme but I LOVE CUTCO KNIVES! I have been shown a million times how to sharpen knives but can't do it, now I never have to sharpen a knife again and they will be replaced if ruined or aged! I watched my aunt turn in her scissors and immediately get a new set sent in the mail. My dealer has a family of 5 generations who have passed knives down and he still sharpens them for free.
Pocket Fisherman: resale value was not established
Read the source claim
Ronco pocket fisherman. Not good for fishing but appreciated in value!!
Mineral Veil: the formula-change date is unconfirmed
Read the source claim
nope. they messed with the mineral veil formula sometime back in the late 2010s, and it's worse.
LG television: the purchase year and apps are unconfirmed
Read the source claim
Lg smart tv waaaay back in 08. It was off of QVC, so it exactly “infomercial,” nutty thing just finally died a few months ago. Had a great picture and, for the time, was really sweet having apps right in the tv like Netflix
Nordic Ware popcorn popper: a listing is not local stock
Read the source claim
I feel like this popcorn popper was an inforcial item or at least marketed like an infomercial item. The Nordicware microwave popcorn popper. You can get them at Walmart now. Choose your own oil. Know what you are eating. Pops up great.
Context: a publicly reported criminal case, not a verdict
Why this needs context: An archived reply mentions an arrest; the attached check records what public court reporting says and that the case is an accusation.
Read the source claim

Kitchen and cooking
The thread's longest ownership claims live here: knife sets still cutting after 20 to 40 years, rotisseries and Foreman grills in their third decade, Magic Bullets past 15. Cleanup is a recurring complaint but rarely made owners give up a machine; quick breakage clustered in cheap single-purpose gadgets such as slushy and snack cups.

About: FlavorWave oven
My Granma bought one, used it once and had me sell it on Craigslist (this was like 10+ years ago). Her exact words were: “this durn thang is too damn heavy! How they expect someone to move this big ole thang around?!” 😂 She was only 4ft 10in and 105lbs on a good day 😂

What the counts show
Owners kept Foreman grills for everyday meals and Ronco rotisseries for chicken and holiday roasts, several for 20 to 35 years, and often replaced a dead unit with the same model. Cleanup, heat and one rotisserie that caught fire complicate the long-life stories.
How attention is distributed across the 38 index entries
Entity support counts are source-record references per existing index row. A source may support more than one entity, so the reference denominator can exceed the distinct source union.
What commenters explicitly report
Source-language buckets include text-bound corrections from the independent source review. They describe attributed accounts, not performance measurements.
Observable tactic structures
Generic behavior-mechanism rules are intentionally suppressed for entity/theme lists; the experience buckets remain explicitly labeled source-language context.

What the counts show
Magic Bullet stories run from college drinks to family smoothies, with several units past 15 or 20 years. Some owners lost rings, cups or other parts while the motor kept going; one owner’s motor quit after a few light uses, and another says the first-generation sets rattled badly.

The Pack-It lunch boxes bro 😭 My mom bought one for my brother and I. I had the original pink one and it honestly worked so good. unfortunately, they are that good, I’ve tried the generic of them as well, and they fall apart so quickly. They work almost as good, but the lifespan of them is terrible, but I was getting at Family Dollar and Dollar General, the scrub daddy is the best. Read the verification noteAbout: Rubber pet-hair carpet brush (brand unspecified)
The rubber pet hair sweeper brush for your carpet. I pre-brush it before vacuuming. Pulls up so much cat and dog hair.
What the counts show
Pet-hair pickup gives ChomChom and rubber carpet brushes a concrete job. Reusable rollers also lasted for years in some homes, though one Schticky ultimately broke.

Pillow Pets lasted as comfort objects and travel pillows, many for 15 to 20 years. MyPillow produced the thread's sharpest split, from pillows in the trash within two months to nightly use after a decade, with defenders crediting washing and a dryer fluff. About: Anointed prayer cloth
So this is going to sound super weird. In 2013, there was an infomercial for a spiritual anointed cloth. At the time, I worked 7p-7a at a hospice house. One of the residents kept watching the infomercial, eyes big and bright when the televangelist was talking about this damn cloth. I called and ordered 12. About 3 weeks later, 12 cloths came in the mail. We kept them in the nursing station and handed them to the residents to hold onto when they were transitioning to death. After the first 12 were gone, I ordered more. Took up a whole days wages but it brought comfort- as ridiculous as it seemed. I’d do it again.

Sunglasses users describe reduced glare or a preferred view, not verified eye-health benefits. A long-used glasses-and-contact case shows how a practical design can be missed when the exact replacement is unclear.

The open it! It’s a tool that’s like turbo-scissors that cuts through those plastic clamshell packages from hell, but it’s also a bottle opener, box cutter, and has a little screwdriver in it. My mom got my ex bf one for xmas when we lived together, and I got it in the breakup 😂 that was like 2011, and it JUST broke earlier this year. Loved that thing!

About: LG smart television (circa 2008, model unspecified)
Lg smart tv waaaay back in 08. It was off of QVC, so it exactly “infomercial,” nutty thing just finally died a few months ago. Had a great picture and, for the time, was really sweet having apps right in the tv like Netflix
Read the verification noteWhat the counts show
An LG television owner liked its picture and streaming apps until the long-kept set failed. Other entries range from recording gear to TiVo and magicJack, often without enough detail to identify a current model.
How attention is distributed across the 7 index entries
Entity support counts are source-record references per existing index row. A source may support more than one entity, so the reference denominator can exceed the distinct source union.
What commenters explicitly report
Source-language buckets include text-bound corrections from the independent source review. They describe attributed accounts, not performance measurements.
Observable tactic structures
Generic behavior-mechanism rules are intentionally suppressed for entity/theme lists; the experience buckets remain explicitly labeled source-language context.

What the counts show
These nominations preserve specific shows and video editions rather than treating all nostalgia as one product. A Good Times DVD owner kept the set through several moves; many other entries supply only a title.

Selected comments from the discussion
Comments with captured likes are selected within posting-time cohorts, preferring catalog-cited comments and then the highest captured like count in each cohort. Cohort percentiles use every timestamped source record; this reduces arrival-time bias without measuring equal exposure. Separately, comments with zero captured likes are selected for reviewed specificity rather than engagement. Heart counts are the actual captured values, and every quotation retains its full source text with privacy redaction.

What separated the keepers from the drawer clutter
Eight patterns that only appear when the whole thread is read together, across product families. Each count is the number of comments and replies we read and matched to the pattern, including the ones that disagree, so it shows how often the pattern came up, not how often a product succeeds.
Knife and peeler sets made the longest-lasting claims, usually as a few surviving pieces
55 source records in this patternNo product family drew more 20-to-40-year ownership claims than Ginsu, Miracle Blade and Ronco knife sets and the TV peelers. Owners describe blades that still cut and were never sharpened. Ginsu sells these sets on that promise, and serrated edges touch the board only at their tips, which fits the reports. But the survivors are often a few favorite pieces (two knives left from a 1987 set, only the steak knives), and a few buyers said the advertised cutting was exaggerated.
- Ginsu knife. Got it 35 years ago and it could still cut a tin can if I wanted it to. Never had to sharpen it. Use it almost every day. Unbelievable!
- Miracle blade. Some of the sucked but I still have a few 24 years later
- Aw.. where is the Miracle Blade? how has no one said Miracle Blade? THEY WERE TERRIBLE!!! THATS WHY! THE LIES THAT MAN TOLD ME WITH HIS FILET KNIFE!!
When a favorite finally died, owners bought the same thing again
30 source records in this patternThe typical breakdown story here is a funeral followed by a rebuy, not a regret. FlavorWave, rotisserie, Flowbee, InStyler and Chop Wizard owners replaced dead units with the same model. A few hunted eBay, flea markets and Goodwill for a model that was no longer easy to find. Some bought a backup while the first one still worked. A few used lifetime or standard warranties to get their replacements.
- The FlavorWave went double platinum in my house. I remember after years, our first one died and we were so upset. Then my dad found a new one on Ebay and it was like Christmas again
- One touch can opener. I got it on clearance for $10 around 20 years ago. It's still my main can opener. I bought a manual one as a backup because I feel like it can't possibly keep going, but it still works perfectly.
Many owners said the original beat the replacement, though not everyone agreed
29 source records in this patternThe same complaint turned up for pillows, makeup, hair tools, sponges, blenders and cleaners: the later purchase was not the product owners remembered. Complaints included a MyPillow bought a year later, a reformulated bareMinerals powder, a Walmart-era InStyler, generic scrubbers that fell apart and knock-off towel wraps. The counter-reports matter. One user found newer bareMinerals better, another said early Magic Bullets rattled and later ones improved, a knock-off Snuggie worked fine, and a Squatty Potty skeptic says a regular kids' stool works just the same. Treat an old recommendation as a clue to check the current version, not proof of today's model.
- Same! Still using mine from 2011. The original is the best. I bought one a year or two later and it wasn’t as good.
- I won’t live without one. It has to be the original. The others just don’t work as well. I have 1 & so does my teenager.
- The newer stuff is even better!
Children's 'magic' toys caused the sharpest letdowns
36 source records in this patternThe most one-sided disappointment in the thread came from toys children begged for because the ad looked magical. Examples include Marvin's Magic Drawing Board ("like tar over a rainbow page"), Fushigi, Floam's smell, the Perfect Pancake and Blo Pens that clogged. The Clapper worked, but small children's claps could not trigger it. There are real exceptions: some drawing boards worked (one bought in a European store), one Fushigi owner learned contact juggling, and another child loved the pancake pan.
- No worries that was a HUGE letdown, Wasn’t remotely that vivid in real life
- I got the clap on clap off when I was a kid. It worked perfect however my claps were too little to make it work so my parents had to clap on and off. Very funny and upsetting lol
- Ngl mine worked and it was dope lol
Kids who begged for household tools often still use them
20 source records in this patternThe flip side of the toy regrets: children who watched infomercials and asked for a Magic Bullet, a chocolate melter, a ShamWow, a RolyKit, a Turbie Twist or a rotisserie for a parent often still have it decades later. Examples include a Magic Bullet from age 14 that ran until 37 and a chocolate melter in use more than 20 years on. What these children wanted was a repeat household job, not an illusion.
- Magic Bullet. I was obsessed with that infomercial. I got it for Christmas when I was 14. I used that thing so much. I just blew out the motor the other day. I’m 37 😂
- I was super into infomercials for a year or two as a kid and for Christmas I got a couple of things. I still have and use my chocolate melter all the time I got it when I was 14ish I'm now 36
Cleanup was a recurring kitchen complaint, yet it rarely ended ownership
14 source records in this patternRotisserie, Foreman grill, brownie pan and slushy-cup owners call cleaning a pain, but most keep the appliance because the result is worth it; one owner calls the rotisserie turkey the best ever. Replies offer fixes: lining the rotisserie tray with foil and buying Foreman models with removable plates. The exceptions show where the trade-off tips. The Slap Chop "took more time to clean" than chopping by hand and sometimes crushed rather than chopped. One Foreman owner cannot remember the last time it was used.
- lol not a joke! even Thanksgiving i made my turkey in it. yes it was a pain to clean. but hands down, best turket ever!!!!❤️
- omg no I hated the slap chop [Tears of joy] took more time to clean it than it would have taken too cut the veggies and they were always a mess
- I still use mine! Used it for prime rib at Christmas! Just line the tray with foil!
MyPillow split owners between two-month failures and decade-old pillows
25 source records in this patternThis was the thread's sharpest direct argument. Some owners report lumps, disintegration or a pillow in the trash within two months, and one Kohl's worker called it the store's top return. Others report nightly use after 7 to 12 years. Defenders credit washing and a regular dryer fluff, which matches MyPillow's own wash-and-tumble-dry instructions. But one critic washed it and says it never felt right again, so care alone does not settle it.
- The my pillows suck. It lasted 2 months.
- How is that possible. They are washable I’ve had 2 for 8 years and they are like new
- Agreed. Washed it and everything. Never felt right after the first wash and made my neck issues worse.
Exercise machines often became furniture; workout tapes carried the weight-loss stories
41 source records in this patternEquipment stories split. Total Gym, Gazelle and Ab Lounge owners describe clothes racks, nap hammocks and fun without the promised abs. Others credit a Thigh Master or ab roller with results, and one Gazelle only got used after it was given to a relative. The workout videos (Tae Bo, P90X, Sweatin' to the Oldies, The Firm, Winsor Pilates) carry most of the thread's weight-loss accounts, some of 20 to 130 pounds. These are personal recollections, not evidence of what another person should expect.
- the gazelle exercise machine was great until I got too lazy and it became a clothing rack but that's more an issue of willpower than the machine itself
- I got those and put together a class at my church in my 20’s. Lost 130lbs doing those tapes!

How to read the owner reports
Based on 4,366 captured comments and replies to Jordan Benedict’s question about the best infomercial purchase. Supporting-record counts include praise, caveats and substantive context; they are not owner totals, positive votes or sales figures.
A bare product name counts as a nomination because it answers the creator’s best-purchase question. Mixed answers remain in both the favorable-nomination and caveat subsets; shopping questions, reactions and purchase wishes do not become endorsements.
Aliases were reconciled across the complete source set. An exact model or series remains separate from an unspecified family; unknown brands remain generic rather than being guessed.
Amazon buttons open source-supported product searches when the exact current model or edition is unknown. Recall, medical-effect, unresolved and negative-only candidates remain unlinked.
The original-comment archive preserves all 4,431 distinct captured platform records: 4,366 comments and replies with text, plus 65 explicit empty-text stubs. Duplicate export occurrences remain in the local raw files. Four reply threads returned one fewer reply than the platform reported; those unavailable replies were not invented.
