Of the 675 comments, 404 arrived on day 4 or later and hold just 22.4% of the thread's 92,998 hearts. That is not a quality signal — it is arithmetic. By the time a comment lands on a video that already peaked, almost nobody is scrolling far enough to tap the heart.
It shows: 87 of the 279 classified records carry zero hearts, and 144 of them arrived on day 4 or later. The teacher who puts a QR code on her parent-meeting slide and then stands in silence for two minutes while parents pull out their phones has one heart. So does the man who fully funded a GoFundMe for an iPad because he was drunk and thought it was his wife's. The taco stand in the park, the printer obituary posted to DonorsChoose, the friend's list cleared in a day by a masonic lodge — all of them sit at zero. Ranking by hearts would have buried every one.
The quiet half of the thread
The funny answers travel, but 74 of the 279 records — more than a quarter — are not funny at all. 21 describe teachers buying the supplies themselves, from a first paycheck, a retirement account, a garage sale or a payment plan. 28 describe districts that forbid the wishlist entirely, or bury it in fundraiser paperwork, while handing out $50 to $200 a year for consumables. 25 describe an ask that produced nothing: three years of posting, hundreds of DMs, not one item.
The most-repeated single idea in the thread is not a tactic at all. It is asking someone else to do the asking — a mother's Facebook page, a father's contact list, a friend's dating profile — because the embarrassment, not the money, is what stops most people from posting the link.

How this was counted
The working unit is a comment record. All 675 comments on the video (250 top-level, 425 replies) were read; 279 describe how a classroom wishlist was funded or attempted and are indexed in full below, one row per comment.
Each indexed record sits in exactly one of 11 categories. The categories were derived from the comments after reading all of them, not chosen in advance.
The other 396 comments were set aside, each with a recorded reason: reactions and applause, tag-only replies, questions to other commenters, chatter about the comment section itself, reply-thread side conversation, QR-code and link how-tos, off-topic posts, requests for readers to buy from the commenter's own list, comments that turn on identifying a named account, opinions with no attempt described, and one retail refund scheme. The indexed and set-aside records together account for all 675 comments.
This counts comments, not purchases or people. Nothing was independently verified, several comments come from the same person, and many describe the same tactic — none of that is merged away.
Comments are ranked by resonance, a comment's hearts measured against others that arrived in the same window, because 404 of the 675 comments landed on day 4 or later and hold only 22.4% of the hearts. Heart counts appear as displayed social proof, never as the ranking.
